What You Need To Know Before Joining An Online Business School

When Christopher Friedman was asked by the interviewer. "How do you even balance full-time shifts and management course?"

The 33-year-old, who's now in between jobs, obtained his MBA degree through online – not by investing time and money and going back to a traditional business school on the weekends, as some interviewers initially believe given that he stays about a 50 kilometres drive away from the college.

Friedman says interviewers usually seem accepting of his 'digital degree' given the substantial reputation of the institution. However, he sometimes requires answering questions about the advantages and disadvantages of distance education and the real-world benefits the e-learning program provides.

Friedman has finished his MBA last year and is now seeking an distance degree in strategic management as part of a dual degree program.

But that perspicacity has evolved as well-known traditional educational institutions adopt distance learning and meet high academic measures – although there's still some scepticism over online MBAs from for-profit organisations.

Employers' increasing recognition of online MBAs is a good sign for distance learning students as the business administration continues to be the most sought-after graduate degree obtained online.

Experts say most employers now realise that an e-learning only renders indispensable workplace experiences and student-faculty intercommunication but also enables learners to implement course material directly to their job, and vice versa.

But not all contracting directors are accustomed to distance education. And, at some bigger organisations, receiving a digital degree can make the hiring process more difficult.

As the advanced tech tools and the internet continue to transform the way our community communicates with one another, it is essential that it has started to revolutionise the way we train ourselves as well. In the past 20 years, online education was implemented as not only a remarkably convenient means of earning a college degree but in some instances even the principal means of gaining a degree. Few people have the extravagance of dedicating four years on campus as a full-time student in our modern economy.

The majority of college undergraduates are working full or part time while in school. While the requirements of the job market remain to grow, professional adults strive to grow with them, attempting to improve their own marketability with relevant degrees all the while attempting to balance their current profession and family responsibilities. Several learners grapple with the choice of whether or not to seek a 'digital degree'. What really values eventually, nevertheless, is what management will think about your online degree.

The Big Picture

A study administered by Zogby International revealed that a little less than 85% of managers and business owners considered that distance degrees were just as credible as traditionally gained degrees, indicating that overall job qualifications were taken into consideration along with a person's degree credential. An employer wants to choose personalities that can perform, and whether or not an individual can perform cannot be completely circumscribed by where or how they obtained their degree.

Show Me What You've Got

Pupils who obtain a digital degree should not be startled or provoked if an employer needs a little more from you in order to convince yourself. You must acknowledge that numerous conventional institutions have been working for over a hundred years and no one questions the nature of people and employees that these institutions produce. The universe of online degree programs is less than twenty years old; so many employers are still suspicious. Consider it a lucky break if an employer chooses to take a risk on you, and do not be disheartened if they want a little anything beyond to put their mind at comfort. Sometimes this may suggest getting hired on probation so that an executive can recognise your skills first hand. Some employers may ask inspired workers to gain additional enterprise-specific certifications or education.

The arrival of this phenomenal learning system is a blissful event for the learners from developing countries. The stringency of conventional learning system that kept education restricted only to a lucky few disappeared as distance education through online arrived. World’s most prestigious learning institutes have come forward to bring enlightenment closer to the most deprived. The entire globe is joining the revolution of distance learning to form a liberal education system for all.

A remarkable initiative…

A recent announcement by the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), confirmed of late that Canada will be assisting the young learners in the Caribbean to achieve greater access to higher education. Minister Ablonczy made the announcement in Antigua on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, as part of her seven-day, seven-country tour of the Eastern Caribbean. Canada is one of those countries, who help the Caribbean countries generate a more sustainable economic growth and enhance opportunities for the Caribbean learners by helping them acquire better knowledge and skills. "Helping the region's young people develop the high-level skills needed to contribute to the work force is a key step toward reaching those goals", said Minister Ablonczy.

The University of West Indies Open Campus, serving 16 Caribbean countries and territories at present is the main implementing partner of the project. The aim of the project is to help increase access to post-secondary qualification for learners residing in remote areas and under-served communities at up to 42 distance education sites across the Caribbean region. Distance learning courses in the Caribbean is hoping to enhance employment opportunities and generate economic prosperity through opening fresh avenues for the new age learners. According to Minister Fantino, the recent attempt is made to support economic growth and boost employment by developing human capital. He said, "By integrating higher education into the Caribbean, Canada is enhancing the ability of Caribbean countries to address the economic and labour market challenges they face, ultimately helping to lift millions of people out of poverty."

“The Caribbean, because of its geography and isolation of island states, is in need of technology that would allow young people in distant and remote areas to get a post-secondary education without necessarily having to move to Barbados, Trinidad or Jamaica where the three main campuses of the UWI system are,” said former University of Alberta professor, Dr. Andy Knight, who is the director of the UWI Institute of International Relations at the St. Augustine campus. Progress in communication and information technologies have helped to extend a learner’s access to post-secondary or higher education, reducing costs in academic resources, and reach learners from distant and deprived communities. That’s the reason why the changing learning system is the most important evolution of the recent age.

Source : bit.ly/16k04OI
As online communication is growing in popularity people are calling this mode of education revolutionary. Online education has become popular with students and working professionals from countries where the educational infrastructure is not as strong as that of developed countries. The students of the Caribbean nations opt for distance learning courses because the courses allow them to pursue their academic goals. The colleges that exist in these countries are basic and offer only a few courses, whereas, online colleges have a plethora of courses that a student can choose from. These online colleges have both undergraduate and postgraduate courses to offer.

Online learning uses various kinds of interesting tools to teach students boring chapters. Audio-visual aids are used for students to learn tedious chapters in fun way. Online degrees are extremely favourable for students and working professionals because they are flexible. These courses can be studied during any time of the day. So, working professionals can finish their degrees before going to work or after coming from work. They can finish their degree after finishing daily chores.

Distance learning enables students to attend lectures sitting in any corner of the world at anytime unlike traditional colleges where you have to go to class to attend lecture at a particular time. Lectures can be attended even while you are relaxing. Distance learning in Caribbean countries is popular because students who want to do well in life can complete their college degree as they work to get a better job, a promotion or a raise.

Distance is considered revolutionary because it has made many things impossible, possible. A student living in a remote village would have thought higher education to be impossible but through online distance learning, higher education is possible for any student anywhere in the world at an affordable price.

Education Technology Makes Learning Fun

Source : bit.ly/1dOTWBd
Education is integral to all living beings and people learn with different sorts of educational technology. Educational technology is basically external aid or tools used to help an individual learn. In this age of technology, it is very important that we make use of various tools that are made available to us without any extra cost. These tools include various types of online and offline applications. Through these applications learning is made simpler and in many cases, lots of fun.

E-learning has made it a lot easier for students to learn as it is extremely convenient and user friendly. These various tools are used to make a boring chapter more colourful and interesting. Technology can add audio visual effects to the contents of a bland chapter which will make you want to study it. When you look at chapters in a fat, black and white text book, do really feel like sitting and reading them? Of course not, who will like to sit through boring classes? Using technology, both software and hardware, to make the mundane lessons exciting is what many educational institutions are resorting to.

Technical tools make long chapters seem short. For example, those who aren’t good at reading and remembering can resort to other methods of learning, like listening to the audio recording of the chapter. Those who remember better with pictorial clues can study a chapter by watching videos of it being taught in class. Distance education colleges use various technical tools to make the syllabus easier for the learner. Technical tools for distance learning courses helps students evolve as they step into a new world. They become more technology friendly and learn to accept technology. As the world is taken over by technology, the faster one adapts to it the more productive they will become in the near future. Educational technology also helps one to learn on their own without disturbing others for help.

Of course, money speaks everywhere, whether it comes to enrolling in a university or using its study materials. But don’t you think that receiving quality education right from home and that too without spending lump sums, like one does to enrol in a full-time programme, is the most valuable gift you can ever get?

Live Webinars to ensure success – The majority of online distance learning providers are hosting live webinars for distance learners with the intention to engage them into learning new strategies for success. Webinars can either be conducted before a programme or can be initiated throughout an entire programme to help students enhance their attentiveness by providing them relevant information on campus resources and policies.

Social Media – Online university instructors ask students them to create their personal profiles in social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, as well as in video optimisation sites like YouTube. Here the distance learners come to know everything about all those events going on in their respective campuses. Through the social media sites, students are also informed of various opportunities that can let them build successful careers.

Supportive calls and emails – Distance learning university advisers are now making use of telephonic advising sessions, motivational messages and email templates with useful information to interact with students learning online. The intention here is to polish their communication skills.

Orientation – The distance learning universities by designing an orientation for students gives them a list of contacts and resources before they kick off with their respective courses. The instructors clearly address their expectations to the students and familiarize them to the virtual world at the same time.

Learning communities – Creating learning communities is one of the most effective initiatives of today’s distance learning providers. By integrating learning communities into active Learning Management Systems or social engagement networks, students will undergo quality and innovative learning experiences.

So, you see that the distance learning from online universities today are accentuating on quality and not quantity. Therefore, if you are in a dilemma whether enrolling online in a distance learning course would be fruitful for career growth, take your answer as ‘yes’ and proceed to fulfil your career goals online.
